Celebrating Peter Leibfarth: A Retirement Well-Earned
At 63, many professionals start winding down their careers. But for Pete Leibfarth, it was time for a new chapter. After years in the corporate world—leading teams, answering hundreds of emails a day, and sitting through countless meetings—Peter realized he missed the kind of work that first sparked his passion. He wanted to get back to his roots, back to the dirt, and back to the machines.
It was a family connection that led him to Valley Corp. His wife’s cousin, already part of the team, spoke highly of the company’s culture and reputation. That was all Pete needed to hear. In May 2021, he joined Valley Corp’s Dirt Crew, running heavy equipment just like he had decades earlier in residential excavation on the East Coast.
From day one, Pete was all in. His mornings started before the sun, checking over his machines, warming them up, making sure every detail was right before getting to work. He operated the tractor with two side dumps, the bulldozer, and the grader, playing a crucial role on projects like the Highway 30 expansion, where he helped prepare the site and grade the terrain.
But what really stood out to Pete wasn’t just the work—it was the people. He quickly realized Valley Corp values team members who show up, put in the effort, and are open to learning. “It’s a very easy company to work for,” he said.
Returning to the field after years away, he was surprised at how much technology had changed. The days of enduring rough, uncomfortable rides in the cab were long gone. “The machines now are so much more comfortable—suspension is smooth, the cabs have air conditioning and heat, and the controls are easier to use. At 67, I can still do the job.”
Pete didn’t just find a job at Valley Corp—he found friendships. Over the past four years, he’s built strong bonds with his coworkers, even heading out on fishing trips with his boss. “How many companies can you say you’d go on a fishing trip with your boss?” he joked.
Now, as Pete steps into retirement, he and his wife are looking forward to hitting the road. With their RV travel trailer packed and ready, they plan to explore the country, visit family in North Carolina and Elkhorn, and enjoy the freedom of the open road.
Reflecting on his time at Valley Corp, Pete put it simply: “The last four years have probably been the happiest four years of my life.”
“I would like to thank Pete for his many years of service to Valley Corporation,” said Dave Almery, Pete’s supervisor. “Always the first one on the job with a positive/can-do attitude. Willing and able to run any machine and do what is needed to get the job done. Your great work ethic and positive role model will be missed.”
Pete, all of us at Valley Corp are grateful for your dedication, your hard work, and the positivity you’ve brought to the team. Enjoy every mile of your next adventure—you’ve earned it.
