What is a Construction Superintendent?

To determine if a construction superintendent position is a fit for you, it helps to know what the job entails. In general, a construction superintendent manages every phase of an assigned construction project, from conception all the way through the project’s end.
People who earn the title of “Construction Superintendent” work on all sorts of projects. Some specialize in structures, grading, utilities, underground electric and sheet piling, while others build commercial spaces. Still, others focus their efforts on public works projects, like constructing bridges or dams.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a construction superintendent often change from one project to another, but some of them remain pretty static from one job to the next. For example, a construction superintendent is responsible for job site safety, paper work, and coordinating with Project Managers. The person will also supervise all aspects of the construction project and coordinate all the activities that are necessary to complete the build.
In fact, the specific, line-item responsibilities of a construction superintendent closely resemble those of a structure superintendent. Although that’s true, the two roles are both different and necessary in practice.
